Ukrainian President Jelensky calls Putin a 'terrorist', demands expulsion from UN

Kiev, Ta. Wednesday 29 June 2022

Russia has been invading Ukraine for more than four months. On June 27, Russian missiles destroyed a shopping center in the Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk at a time when there were hundreds of people in the mall. The attack killed 18 people and injured several others. In the aftermath of the Russian attack, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had become a terrorist.

Russia needs immediate action to stop the killings

In a video message to the UN Security Council, Jelensky said Russia should take legal action to prevent it from carrying out terrorist acts. "We need to take immediate action to stop the Russian killings," he said. The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has so far displaced millions or forced them to flee the country. The war has killed thousands of people so far.

Ukraine's appeal to send officers to Ukraine from the United Nations

After Russia's military refused to target the mall, Jelensky said the United Nations should send a representative to Ukraine so that officials could independently confirm that the missile attack in Kremenchuk was in fact a Russian missile attack. Calling Putin a terrorist, he said terrorists attack every day, seven days a week. They act as terrorists every day.

Russia should be removed from the United Nations - Jelensky

Referring to Article 6 of the United Nations Charter, Jelensky said that a member who continues to violate the principles implicit in the current charter can be expelled from the organization by the General Assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council. Experts say Russia cannot be removed from the UN Security Council because it is a permanent member of the Security Council and has veto power.
