Single use plastics will be banned in the country from July 1. The government has now banned 19 items made from single use plastic. From July 1, there will be a complete ban on the production, sale, storage and export of these items. The ban is aimed at reducing pollution from single-use plastic waste.

Items made from single use plastics are discarded once we use them and which is harmful to the environment.

Under the Environmental Protection Act, 19 items made from single-use plastic have been banned, Environment Ministry officials said. Anyone using these items now could be fined or jailed or both under Section 15 of the Act. Section 15 includes imprisonment for up to 7 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh.

The Ministry of Environment has issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday. The notification, issued by the ministry, said there was a possibility of a ban on items made of single-use plastic such as cups, glasses, spoons and straws.
