Movement again with demand for reservation in Rajasthan, internet shut down in Bharatpur

The agitation has started again in Rajasthan with the demand for reservation. Many passengers have been stranded on the Jaipur-Agra National Highway for the past two days as protesters blocked the road. Saini, Kushwaha, Maurya, Shakya, Mali communities have demanded 15% separate reservation before the state government.

Laxman Singh Kushwaha, conservator of the Reserve Struggle Committee, said the demand was made on the basis of population. As per the provisions of the Constitution, Article 13 (2) provides that the State Government may grant special reserves to the backward castes. Societies already get reserves, but these communities do not get the benefits of reserves even though they constitute 15% of the population as they belong to many castes in that category. Earlier, the issue was raised with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and he assured to take appropriate decision, though no decision has been taken so far.
In the areas of Bharatpur where the agitation started, the internet service was shut down for 3 hours. Internet has been shut down in areas like Nadbai, Vair Bhusavar, Uchchen of Bharatpur. District Collector Alok Ranjan said that if the rumors of the agitation spread in the state and its videos spread, the law and order situation in other places could also be jeopardized. Internet service was shut down to prevent this from happening.
The state government has formed a delegation led by Minister Vishwendra Singh to interact with the protesters. The agitation committee said the government had formed a committee headed by the minister after no talks would be held with the officials. Minister Vishwendra Singh said that many people were disturbed as the Jaipur-Agra highway was jammed. If the protesters evacuate the highway immediately, the way will be paved for negotiations.
In the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan, on the Jaipur-Agra highway, a large number of people came with sticks for demonstrations. The government machinery was then activated. The Rajasthan government has also initiated negotiation efforts.
