Know, this is the only President of India who was elected unopposed, all 36 candidates had their forms canceled

New Delhi, June 27, 2022,

In the democratic system of government of India, the President is elected not by the people but by the representatives of the people. The President holds the highest position in the Constitution, which protects the sovereignty of India. For political parties in India, the presidential election is a battle of wits and a battle of prestige. In India, with the exception of Neelam Sanjeev Reddy, not a single candidate has been elected unopposed in the presidential election.

In the 19th, 6 candidates filed their forms against Nilam Sanjeev Reddy, all of whom were elected as uncontested presidents whose forms were canceled. In the 1969 presidential election, Nilam Sanjeev Reddy was defeated by his own Congress party, but in 1977 he was fielded unopposed. This period after the lifting of the Emergency was extremely bad for Congress.

Not only did the Congress lose power, Indira Gandhi Rae Bareli and her son Sanjay Gandhi lost the Amethi Lok Sabha seat. At that time, there was no opposition candidate in the presidential election. Not only did some independents contest but in the end Nilam Sanjeev Reddy became the President without any opposition.

Nilam Sanjeev Reddy was the President from July 25, 1977 to July 25, 1982. During the tenure of Nilam Sanjeev Reddy, Morarji Desai, Chaudhary Charan Singh and Indira Gandhi became the three Prime Ministers. He was also the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh from 1956 to 1960 and from 1962 to 1964.
