About three thousand prisoners who went on parole from Tihar are missing

Mumbai: The parole application of Shailendra Pandey alias Pinki, accused in the flirtation case of Lakhan Bhaiya, an accomplice of gangster Chhota Rajan, was today rejected by the Mumbai High Court. The bench also said that the 3,000 convicts who got parole from Tihar in Kovid-19 are yet to be traced.

Pandey was earlier granted parole in 2013. But then he was a fugitive for four years, the court noted. The bench also said that if Pandey, who had earlier misused his parole, was granted parole again, his false and dangerous message could spread in the society. Pandey was informed by Encounter Specialist Pradeep Sharma.

In this case, everyone except Sharma has been sentenced to life imprisonment in 2013. Pandey was granted parole in 2013. But he escaped. He was arrested again by the police in 2017 and is currently lodged in Kolhapur jail. Last year, 6740 accused were granted parole due to Kovid. 3468 of them are missing.

The Tihar Jail administration has now enlisted the help of the Delhi Police. Most of the accused are diabetics, patients with kidney and hypertension. Tihar has the capacity to hold ten thousand prisoners. But inmates were granted parole to reduce congestion in Corona, according to several media outlets.
