Criminal cases against 31 Rajya Sabha MPs, 79 per cent millionaires


- Property of 226 MPs out of 233, disclosure in conclusion of cases

- 71 MPs with criminal cases include 20 from BJP, 12 from Congress, five from RJD, three from AAP.

New Delhi: Out of the total number of sitting MPs in the Rajya Sabha, 71 per cent have declared criminal cases against them. While the average wealth of Rajya Sabha MPs is Rs 4.5 crore. This information was released by ADR-National Election Watch. These organizations analyzed the assets and criminal cases of 6 out of 6 Rajya Sabha MPs.

Currently, only one seat is vacant in the Rajya Sabha. The affidavits of the two MPs could not be obtained and their details were not disclosed. According to the information received, out of 8 MPs in Rajya Sabha, 3% i.e. 16 MPs are crorepatis. And the average wealth of each MP is Rs 4.5 crore.

Out of these 9 MPs, 21 MPs (51 per cent) have declared that they have criminal cases against them. While there are serious cases against 6 MPs (12 per cent). Two Rajya Sabha MPs have been booked for murder (304) and four MPs for attempted murder under Section 304. Four MPs have been charged with crimes against women.

One of them, Congress MP KC Venugopal, is facing a rape case. Out of all the MPs against whom criminal cases have been registered, 30 are from BJP, 12 from Congress, three from AITC, five from RJD, four from CPI (M), three from AAP and two from NCP. The MPs with criminal cases include seven from Uttar Pradesh, 12 from Maharashtra, six from Tamil Nadu, three from Bengal, nine from Kerala and 10 from Bihar.
