230 people arrested in Uttar Pradesh for violence after Friday prayers


- Criminals will be prosecuted under the Gangster Act except for confiscation of their property

So far, 230 people have been arrested from various districts of Uttar Pradesh in connection with the violence that erupted after Friday prayers. UP's ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said that in yesterday's incident, some people tried to disrupt peace and order in some districts. They have been identified and arrested.

"Currently, the situation is under control," Kumar said. Criminals will be prosecuted under the Gangster Act. Apart from this, their property will be confiscated. Damage to public and private property will also be recovered under judicial process.

According to UP's ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar, 68 people have been arrested from Prayagraj, 52 from Hathras, 48 ​​from Saharanpur, 29 from Ambedkar Nagar, 25 from Moradabad and eight from Firajabad.

In some districts, including Prayagraj and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, people chanted slogans and pelted stones after Friday prayers over alleged BJP leader Nupur Sharma's allegedly offensive remarks against Prophet Mohammad. A senior official at the Uttar Pradesh police headquarters in Lucknow said slogans were heard from Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur and Lucknow districts after the prayers.
