What is the rule of allotment of bungalows to leaders, know how much is the rent?

Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will have to vacate a government bungalow in New Delhi. The Union Urban Development Ministry on Wednesday sent a notice to Priyanka Gandhi on the matter.

Under this, the Congress general secretary will have to vacate the government bungalow at Lodhi Estate in Delhi by August 1. Priyanka Gandhi has got a Type-6 category bungalow at this place since 1997. Priyanka Gandhi used to pay Rs 37,000 per month for the rent of this bungalow.

Priyanka Gandhi's bungalow is located in Lodhi Estate area where there are type 6-7 category bungalows. These bungalows are allotted to those who have been MPs five times or held the post of Chief Minister or Governor of any state before becoming an MP.

This bungalow that Priyanka Gandhi got for security

Although Priyanka Gandhi does not fall into any of these categories but she was provided special protection group i.e. SPG security and for that she lived there. After the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, his entire family was given SPG facility. It may be mentioned that Rajiv Gandhi was killed in an explosion at Sriperumbudur on May 21, 1991 and since then his entire family has been getting this facility.

However, in 2019, the central government removed the SPG security provided to the Gandhi family and gave them Z + security, which is the responsibility of the Central Reserve Police Force. But Z + Security doesn't get a bungalow.

A total of 517 houses in the Lok Sabha pool

The Lok Sabha pool has a total of 517 houses ranging from Type-8 bungalows to small flats. It also has a hostel and all decisions regarding allotment of bungalows are taken by the House Committee. The committee has to take a decision based on the number of flats available in different categories and the number of applications received for it.

The residential premises available for the Lok Sabha pool include 159 bungalows, 37 twin flats, 193 single flats, 96 flats in multi-storey buildings and 32 units of regular regular premises. All these residences are in North Delhi's North Avenue, South Avenue, Meena Bagh, Bishambar Das Marg, Baba Khadak Singh Marg, Tilak Lane and Vitthalbhai Patel House.

Type-8 Bungalow

Type-8 bungalows are considered to be the highest category of bungalows. It is about three acres (a little more or less). The main building of these bungalows has 8 rooms (5 bedrooms, 1 hall, 1 large dining room and one study room). Apart from that the campus has a living room and a backside (inside the campus) with a servant quarters.

Type-8 bungalows are usually allotted to cabinet ministers, Supreme Court judges, former prime ministers / presidents / vice-presidents (or their surviving spouses) and senior leaders. Type-8 bungalows are located on Janpath, Tyagaraja Marg, Krishnamanan Marg, Akbar Road, Safdarjung Road, Motilal Nehru Marg and Tughlaq Road.

Type-7 Bungalow

Type-7 bungalows are spread over one and a half acres. It has one bedroom less (4 bedrooms) than a Type-8 bungalow. Such bungalows are located at Ashoka Road, Lodhi Estate, Kushak Road, Canning Lane, Tughlaq Lane etc.

Such bungalows are mostly allotted to Ministers of State, Delhi High Court judges, persons who have been MPs at least five times. The bungalow where Rahul Gandhi lives at Tughlaq Lane is Type-7.

New MPs get Type-5 bungalows

First-time MPs usually get Type-5 accommodation. However, under the new conditions, they can also get Type-6 accommodation. For this he has to set some conditions. This includes the condition of being the first MLA or a minister in the state government.

There are four categories to the Type-5 residence. Type-5 (a) allocates one drawing room and one bedroom set. While type-5 (b) has a set of one drawing room and two bedrooms. The Type-5 (C) has a set of drawing rooms and three bedrooms while the Type-5 (D) has a set of drawing rooms and four bedrooms.

Combined Flat Type-5 (A / A), Combined Flat Type-5 (A / B) and Combined Flat Type-5 (B / B) are also available for MPs to stay.

What is the rental rule?

The central government offers accommodation to MPs but if an MP is not allotted a house and he stays in a hotel in Delhi, his rent is also paid by the government. If a former MP lives in a government accommodation, he has to pay rent as per the market rate.

Not only this, MPs are also given allowance for maintenance of flats and bungalows. Funds are approved by the Ministry of Urban Development if costs exceed 30,000. While the House Committee can approve the expenditure up to Rs 30,000.
