New delhi date. Thursday, January 20, 2022

The first sentence was handed down on Thursday in connection with the riots in north-east Delhi. A Delhi court has sentenced a man named Dinesh Yadav to five years in prison. Prosecution counsel RCS Bhadauria confirmed this. Dinesh Yadav has been sentenced to five years in prison for robbing and setting fire to a woman's house.

The court sentenced Dinesh Yadav to five years in prison for robbing and setting fire to the house of a 70-year-old woman from Bhagirathi Vihar in Gokalpuri, Delhi. Dinesh Yadav also lives in the area and this is the first case in which anyone has been convicted in the riots in north-east Delhi.

The house of a woman named Manori was set on fire after a robbery on December 25, 2020. The rioters also stole their livestock. The 70-year-old Manori jumped from the roof and hid in a Hindu family to save his life. The police then somehow rescued his family and the whole family stayed out of Delhi for 2 weeks.

In this case, the court has taken the statement of 2 police personnel as a basis. He said Dinesh was part of a mob that resorted to violence. However, he did not see Dinesh burning the manor house. But the court said that if someone is part of an illegal mob, he is equally responsible for the violence as the rest of the rioters.

Judgment has been handed down in another riot case but the accused has been acquitted.
