Supreme Court questions Delhi government
Nothing concrete has happened to reduce pollution, can't carry a gun on our shoulders: Supreme
New Delhi: The Supreme Court today heard the plea of a 17-year-old student regarding rising levels of air pollution in Delhi-NCR. During the hearing, the court slammed the Delhi government's decision to reopen schools amid rising air pollution in the city.
The court asked the government why children are being forced to go to school when the government has implemented work from home for adults. "We have taken your statements seriously," Supreme Court Chief Justice NV Ramanna told advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, appearing for the Delhi government.
You made several claims. You said schools have been closed. In fact not all schools have been closed. 3 and 4 year old children are going to school. "We feel that nothing concrete is being done on the issue of air pollution and that the level of pollution is rising because of it," the court added.
Regarding the rising pollution in Delhi, the CJI said, "We are very serious about the pollution from industrial and vehicles." You can't run with a gun on our shoulders. You have to take action. Why were the schools opened? We also have children. We give you 24 hours. We want you to think seriously about this issue and find a solution.
