The arrears of AAI of four domestic airlines have doubled

The arrears to be paid by the four domestic airlines Indigo, SpiceJet, Go First and Air Asia India's to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) have doubled between January 2020 and October 2021, according to AAI documents. India's arrears are the highest.

According to the AAI document, Air India owed Rs 313.81 crore to AAI as on January 1, 2020, which increased to Rs 4.5 crore on October 31, 2021.

Airlines have to pay AAI for various charges including air navigation, landing, parking at more than 100 airports. Both Air India and AAI operate under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

The government announced on October 8 that the Tata Group had won the bid to acquire Air India. The government is likely to hand over Air India to Tata by June 203.

There are six leading domestic airlines in India. These include Indigo, SpiceJet, GoAir, Air Asia India, Air India and the region. According to the AAI document, as on January 1, 2020, the outstanding amount of these six companies to be paid to AAI was Rs 304.5 crore. On October 31, 2021, Arkam had increased to Rs. 2.5 crore. That is an increase of 12.5 per cent over the period from January 1, 2020 to October 31, 2021.

Vistara and Indigo have stated that they have paid the outstanding amount to AII. At the end of January 2020, Indigo's arrears to AAI stood at Rs 2.91 crore, which increased to Rs 20.8 crore in October, 2011. SpiceJet's outstanding balance was Rs 4.5 crore, which increased to Rs 12.5 crore. Go First's outstanding amount was Rs 12.5 crore, which increased to Rs 2.08 crore. Air Asia India's outstanding balance was Rs 1.5 crore, which has increased to Rs 4.5 crore.
