More than half the time wasted in the first week in the Rajya Sabha

New delhi date. 3

More than half of the first week of the Rajya Sabha has been wasted in the winter session of Parliament. Opposition MPs have been pushing for a number of demands, including the ratification of 12 suspended MPs from the Rajya Sabha.

It is hoped that the work of Parliament will run smoothly in the coming weeks. Opposition MPs have termed the decision to suspend the MPs as undemocratic and discriminatory. Rajya Sabha Speaker M Venkaiah Naidu has refused to withdraw the order suspending the MPs.

Naidu said the suspended MPs had not even expressed remorse over their mistake. Naidu clarified that the decision to suspend MPs for misconduct was taken by Parliament and it was up to Parliament to decide on the issue in future.

On the other hand, even the suspended MPs are not ready to back down and they are constantly protesting near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the Parliament premises.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi has said that if the MPs apologize, their suspension could be considered. In the last installment, 3.50 per cent work has been done.
