International flights will not start from December 15

- The government changed the decision in one week

- Following Omicron, the government postponed the decision to start flights

New Delhi: A week after the government decided to start international flights from December 15, it has now decided not to start international flights at present due to increased cases of Corona variant Omicron.

The resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger flight services will be announced later, said DGCA, director of aviation. International flights to India have been banned since March 4, 2020 due to the Corona virus.

The move comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 9 told officials to reconsider before lifting the ban on international travel due to concerns over Omicron.

The DGCA said the decision was taken following a significant increase in cases of the new virus worldwide. The situation is being closely monitored and all stakeholders are being consulted. Earlier, the director general of aviation had said on November 9 that international flights would start from December 15.

However, following Prime Minister Modi's intervention, the ministry said on November 9 that the decision to start international flights would be reviewed.
