New Delhi: The company has agreed to reduce the price of one dose of its vaccine to Rs 265 as talks are underway between the central government and Zydus Cadila, according to sources.

However, no final decision has been taken yet. The vaccine can be given to people over 12 years of age. Earlier, Zydus Cadila had proposed to keep the total price of all the three doses at Rs 1,900. However the government at the time told the company to reduce the proposed price.

A disposable painless jet applicator will be needed to deliver the needle free vaccine. For which Rs 93 per dose has to be paid separately. Thus, the total cost of one dose of vaccine will be Rs 358. A final decision on the price of a single dose of vaccine will be made in a week.

Sources said a jet injector would be needed to administer the Zykov-D vaccine. Priced at Rs 30,000. 20,000 doses can be given with the help of an injector. Three doses of this vaccine should be taken at intervals of 28 days. The government is currently paying Rs 205 for one dose of Covishield and Rs 215 for one dose of Covacin.
