The Zykov D vaccine will only be given to adults under the National Immunization Program


The vaccine is also approved for minors over 12 years of age

New Delhi: Under the government's national anti-coronavirus vaccination program, Zydus Cadila's Covid-19 vaccine Zykov-D will currently be given only to adults, sources said in a statement. India's drug regulator has approved Zyakav-D for people over 12 years of age.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, the government has approved the inclusion of the Zykov D vaccine in the national vaccination program and will soon provide the vaccine under the program.

The ministry has also ordered the purchase of one crore Zykov D vaccine from Ahmedabad-based pharma company. The government will buy a single dose of the vaccine at Rs 265. The company will provide a needle free applicator for the vaccine at a price of Rs 93.

The Zykov-D vaccine, approved by India's Dugar Regulator, can be given to people over 12 years of age, but currently the vaccine will be given only to adults under the National Vaccination Program.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandvia said the government did not want to rush into vaccinating children. This will be decided by a committee of experts. He further said that no country in the world has started vaccinating children on a large scale. However, a limited number of children have been vaccinated in some countries.

The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) is working on child immunization. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCDGI) has approved Bharat Biotech's Covacin vaccine for people between the ages of two and 18 years. However, a committee of experts is working on whether to give the vaccine to children between the ages of two and 18.
