Only agriculture can repeal agricultural laws, there is no other way

Agricultural laws will not be repealed by promises alone

The government will have to bring a bill in Parliament to repeal the law, the reason has to be stated: Former Lok Sabha Secretary

New Delhi: Farmers have been agitating for the last one year over the Agriculture Act. Suddenly, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government was ready to repeal the law. However, experts believe that the government will have to introduce a bill in Parliament to repeal the law.

Former Union Law Secretary PK Malhotra said that just as a bill is introduced for enactment of a law, a bill has to be introduced for repeal of the same law as the procedure for both is the same as in the Constitution.

As a result, even if the central government wants to repeal these three agricultural laws, it will have to introduce a bill in Parliament which can be repealed only after it is passed. There is no other way, said former Lok Sabha secretary PDT Acharya.

While Malhotra said that these three agricultural laws have not been implemented by the government at present but the fact is that these three agricultural laws have been approved at present and it has also been approved in the Parliament. Therefore, it can only be repealed by Parliament.

However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also said that the laws would be withdrawn through a parliamentary process. Acharya, a law expert, said that when the government introduces a bill to repeal the law, it will have to explain to Parliament why it wants to repeal the law.
