Mumbai: Anil Deshmukh sent to 14-day judicial custody, ED seeks custody

Former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was produced before a special PMLA court today and has been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days. However custody was sought by the ED.

Anil Deshmukh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case. Deshmukh was then remanded in ED custody till November 6. Deshmukh was produced in a special holiday court on Saturday. During the hearing the ED sought his custody but the court refused and pronounced the decision to send him to judicial custody.

The ED arrested Anil Deshmukh on Monday in a money laundering case after a 12-hour interrogation. During the interrogation, the investigating agency did not get a satisfactory answer to any question from Anil Deshmukh and he was eventually arrested.

Earlier, the ED had summoned Anil Deshmukh's son Rishikesh Deshmukh for questioning and he has been summoned to the ED office for questioning.

On February 25, a vehicle laden with explosives was found outside the house of businessman Mukesh Ambani in Antilia. In this case, the name of Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waje came up. The Maharashtra government then transferred the then Mumbai Police Commissioner Paramvir Singh and made him the DG of Home Guard. Paramvir Singh later wrote a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, claiming that Anil Deshmukh had demanded Rs 100 crore from Sachin Waje every month as Home Minister.
