India will take action if China stops maritime traffic: Navy chief

Panaji, Ta. 3
India has warned against taking action against independent, free and inclusive maritime traffic in the Indo-Pacific region without naming China, at a time when China fears Taiwan will blockade our maritime traffic links, major ports and airports.
Without naming China, Admiral Karmabir Singh, chief of the navy, said that countries whose actions would block free, open and inclusive maritime traffic in the Indian and Pacific Oceans should be taught a lesson. They should be told that they are wrong and correct their mistakes. If necessary, India will also take action to stop them. He added that any country doing wrong at sea would be prevented from changing its current status. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Goa Maritime Conclave, Karmbir Singh said that China was occupying a large area of the South China Sea and was preparing to block the passage of ships passing through it and the whole world was concerned about it.
At the conclave, Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar said the ongoing naval presence in the Indian and Pacific Ocean region was not a normal development. There are many big reasons behind this. The risks involved are undeniable. He said there was an unprecedented increase in military presence, terrorism, looting and arms smuggling in the maritime region.
Meanwhile, the bi-annual report of the Taiwanese Ministry of Defense states that China is constantly strengthening its air, naval and military capabilities to use against Taiwan. These capabilities include blockades against our important ports, airports and outbound flights, cutting off our air and sea lines of communication. The report also warns that China is capable of attacking Taiwan with its missiles, including ballistic and cruise variants.
