I don't trust Modi, I even promised to deposit Rs 15 lakh: Tikait's joke

Not just promises, let's withdraw agricultural laws in Parliament

The agitation will not be withdrawn till the government gives legal recognition to the support price: Tikait

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised farmers that he will repeal all the three agricultural laws. On the other hand, comparing Modi's promise with Rs 15 lakh to everyone's account, farmer leader Rakesh Tikait said, "We will not take back our agitation."

Tikait demanded that the law be withdrawn in Parliament on an immediate basis and that the movement be withdrawn after giving legal assurances on the issue of support prices. Rakesh Tikait said there was no need to celebrate the Modi government's announcement of repeal of agricultural laws.

The agitation will continue till these laws are repealed in Parliament and legal assurances are given on the issue of support price. After attending a function in Palghar, Maharashtra on Friday, Tikait tweeted shortly after Modi's announcement that "we will not take this movement back for now."

We are waiting for the time when this law will be withdrawn in Parliament. We don't trust Modi, Modi had earlier promised Rs 15 lakh which he has not fulfilled yet. Tikait also demanded that the support price be not legally guaranteed.

The agitation will continue till this assurance is given and the support price is not enacted or provided for in the law and the farmers sitting on the picket at Delhi border will not return home till then. Addressing the nation on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti, Modi said that agricultural laws would be withdrawn.

While the United Kisan Morcha, which is already running the movement, has said that it welcomes the decision but demands that it be implemented in Parliament. Our movement is not just about repealing agricultural laws. We will continue the movement with the demand for support prices.
