Four hanged, two jailed for life in Modi rally serial blast case in Bihar


Two others sentenced to 10 years, one to seven years in prison in 2013 case: Six killed, 89 injured in blast

Patna: An NIA court on Monday sentenced four people to death in connection with the 2013 serial blasts at Gandhi Maidan in Bihar's Patna. The verdict came eight years after the Patna serial blasts on October 27, 2013.

A total of nine people have been convicted in the case, four of whom have been sentenced to death. Two were sentenced to life imprisonment and two to 10 years, while one was sentenced to seven years.

Haider Ali, Noman Ansari, Mo. were among the convicts sentenced to death. Mujibullah Ansari, Imtiaz Alam. Umar Siddiqui and Azharuddin Qureshi have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Ahmed Hussain, Mo. Feroze Aslam was sentenced to 10 years and Iftikhar Alam to seven years.

It may be noted that Narendra Modi had an election rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna in 2013, at which time the threat took place. At the same time, a bomb blast at Platform No. 10 at Patna Junction killed six people and injured more than 80 others. Eight years later, a special NIA court delivered its landmark judgment.

A total of 187 witness statements have been taken in the case. The case was being investigated by the NIA and an FIR was lodged against 12 of them, who are currently lodged in Beur jail. One of the accused has died and has been sentenced to three years imprisonment for being a minor.
