Clean Survey: Indore tops for fifth time in a row, Chhattisgarh clean state

President Ramnath Kovinde on Saturday announced the 'Clean Survey 2021' award, declaring Chhattisgarh the cleanest state in the country while Indore in Madhya Pradesh has won the cleanest city award for the fifth consecutive time. Chhattisgarh has been awarded the cleanest state award in the annual sanitation survey while Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh has been awarded the cleanest Ganga city award in the Swachh Survey 2021.
Surat city of Gujarat was ranked second in the list of cleanest cities last year. This year too, Surat has maintained its second rank. Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh is ranked third in the list. In the year 2020, Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra was the third most beautiful city in the country. A total of 2,50 cities participated in the 2021 edition of the Clean Survey.

Cities are usually rated using the star system and this year 4 cities were given certificates under some star ratings compared to 3 cities in 2016. Of these, nine are five-star cities, 113 are three-star cities and 12 are single-star cities. This is the sixth edition of the Clean Survey, which has become the world's largest urban hygiene survey, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, Swachh Bharat Mission has changed the sickle of Indian cities in the last seven years. Under Swachh Amrut Mahotsav 2021, 12 Swachh Survey Awards, 12 Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge Awards and 18 awards for waste free cities were awarded today. In addition, as part of the Clean Survey 2021, a new category of awards has been added under the name 'Prerak Daur Sanman', which includes Divya (Platinum), Anupam (Gold), Ujjawal (Silver), Udit (Bronze) and Arohi (Aspiring) in five additional sub-categories. Is. Under the Motivational Round Honors category, cities will be rated on the basis of their ability to separate dry, wet and hazardous waste, condition of city toilets, percentage of waste going to landfill and other factors.
Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri congratulated Indore and its people, political leadership and the corporation. On this occasion, President Ramnath Kovinde said that Mahatma Gandhi said that cleanliness should be the highest priority and keeping in view this priority of Gandhiji, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the Swachh Bharat Mission forward as a mass movement.
He said he had been told that nine states and union territories and urban areas were free from open defecation. Kovinde said that the biggest achievement of Swachh Bharat Mission is to bring a change in the thinking of the country, where even the youngest children of the house can now stop the big ones from spreading filth.
President Kovinde added that it is a shameful practice for human beings to pick up dirt on the head and the responsibility to stop it lies not only with the government but with the society and all the citizens of the country. He suggested that machine-cleaning facilities should be made available in all cities. The President also spoke about the adoption of good practices and currency by the Sanitation Award winning cities.
