HYDERABAD: With the possibility of a third wave of corona hitting Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and new heirs like Zika starting to show their fury in the country, Telangana health department employees, several health experts and city doctors have started private vaccine booster doses without any government approval. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is still debating how to issue guidelines for booster doses but Telangana government employees do not believe in waiting for such guidelines.

Telangana health department staff, doctors and nurses had vaccinated them only eight months ago, but many doctors are still reluctant to take any further risks given the active presence of coronavirus in the state.

Speaking to a national newspaper, the doctors said they had no choice but to take a booster dose. Government health centers do not give a third dose of vaccine but the trend of taking a third dose of vaccine is gaining momentum among the educated people of the state.

"Of course, not everyone can afford to take the third dose. In addition, the third dose in private will not be given any certificate from the government," a doctor said on condition of anonymity. Health department officials said they are super aware of what is going on in the city, but the trend will continue as no guidelines have yet been issued for or against booster doses.
