There is no shortage of coal in the country, there will be no blackout anywhere: Coal Minister

New Delhi, Dt

The central government on Sunday took control of all resources to ensure that power units have adequate resources to generate electricity, warning states from Delhi to Andhra Pradesh of a power crisis due to coal shortages. While there are fears of blackouts in many states, the Coal Minister has termed the power supply problem as just a rumor. He assured all, including the state governments, that there was no risk of power outages. Coal India Ltd. It has enough stock of 3 million tonnes to meet the demand for 8 days of coal.

While the country has witnessed record coal production this year, torrential rains in coal-mining states have disrupted power supply to power units, affecting power generation in several states, including Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi and Andhra Pradesh. In addition, power generation units dependent on imported coal have reduced or shut down their units due to rising cost of coal. This factor has also exacerbated the problem. Due to rising cost of imported coal, Tata Power, which supplies 1.20 MW to Gujarat, 4 MW to Punjab, 20 MW to Rajasthan, 20 MW to Maharashtra and 20 MW to Haryana, has shut down its imported coal based power plant in Mundra.

However, Coal Minister Prahlad Joshi tweeted on Sunday that the state of coal production and supply in the country has been reviewed. I assure everyone that there is no risk of power outages. The country has ample coal reserves. No one should try to spread fear among the people. He added that rolling stock in thermal power plants is filling up with daily supply. Apart from this, with the departure of monsoon, the supply of coal is likely to increase in the coming days, so that the stock of coal will increase.

According to the Coal Ministry, the power plant still has a stock of about 3 lakh tonnes of coal, which is enough for a requirement of three days. And Coal India Ltd. It has a stock of over 500 lakh tonnes, which can supply coal to the power plant.

According to the Coal Ministry, domestic coal-fired power generation has grown by about 8 per cent this year till September 2021 on the basis of strong supply to coal companies. The average daily requirement of coal in a power plant is about 12.5 lakh tonnes per day while the daily supply of coal is about 12.5 lakh tonnes per day. Despite torrential rains in the coal mining area, Coal India has supplied 3 million tonnes of coal to the power sector this year, the highest in the first six months. Coal India has supplied more than 1.5 million tonnes of coal daily to the power sector. Not only that, this supply has been increased to 12 lakh tonnes per day and by the end of this month it is to be further increased to 12 lakh tonnes per day.

Earlier, Union Energy Minister R. That. Singh had dismissed claims of massive power crisis in the country and said there was no need to panic. Because not only is there a power crisis. According to energy ministry data, power consumption fell by 2 per cent on Saturday to 2.3 million units from 4,800 million units on Friday. The power ministry said the total supply of coal on Saturday was 1.8 million tonnes while the total consumption was 1.8 million tonnes. Thus, supply is more than coal consumption. In addition the supply of coal is gradually increasing.
