The rickshaw driver from Mathura was given Rs. 3.47 crore tax notice

He misused the PAN card reached by courier

The rickshaw driver contacted the income tax office and exposed the conspiracy

The offenders did GST registration on the rickshaw driver's page

Mathura: Would you believe that a person who earns his living by driving a rickshaw has to pay a tax of Rs 3.47 crore. Even rickshaw driver Pratap Singh could not believe his eyes after seeing the income tax notice. Income tax officials were also suspicious after meeting the rickshaw driver.

Pratap Singh, who wanted to open a bank account, went to the Jan Suvidha Kendra near his house and applied for a PAN. The center manager said his pancapard would arrive in a month.

However, his PAN card did not come. A record check revealed that the courier company had given the card to a man named Sanjay Singh. He was a cyber cafe administrator.

However, as per the rules, the courier company has to deliver the PAN card to the self-holder at his / her address. If the rickshaw driver pushed, he was given a color print of the PAN card.

The rickshaw driver did not know that crores of rupees were being traded in his name. People who had the original PAN card of the rickshaw driver had registered for GST in the name of Pratap Singh. It had a turnover of Rs 43.44 crore in a single year in 2018-19.

Due to the MoU between Income Tax and GST, both the departments share each other's data. During the data sharing, Income Tax Insight Software found the case suspicious as it did not file a return despite a high turnover.

Notice was sent to the PAN card holder in February, 202. Which did not reach the rickshaw driver. The scrutiny was initiated by the Income Tax Department which did not come up against the holder. Based on a turnover of Rs 43.44 crore, eight per cent profit, surcharge, tax, penalty and all other items were added to the amount of Rs 3.47 crore.
