The government was sheltering the minister's son in the Lakhimpur violence: Priyanka

Beginning of election campaign from Varanasi

Alleged that no one is safe in the country except BJP leaders and their business friends

Varanasi: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra today launched her election campaign through a farmers' justice rally in Varanasi. At the rally, he alleged that the government was trying to save the Union Minister's son in the Lakhimpur violence case. "No one is safe in this country except BJP leaders and their business friends," he said.

Eight days after the violence in Lakhimpur, Uttar Pradesh, Priyanka Gandhi held a farmers' justice rally in Prime Minister Modi's constituency Varanasi. Ashish Mishra, son of Union Minister Ajay Mitra, has been arrested in the Lakhimpur case. In the context of the incident, Priyanka said that the Prime Minister had recently visited an exhibition in Lucknow but he did not come to Lakhimpur to wipe away the tears of the farmers.

Priyanka said that Mahatma Gandhi fought for the freedom of this country so that justice could be given to the poor and workers, but the people have given up hope of justice because of the present government. In this country, the son of a Union Minister trampled farmers under a car but the government was trying to save him. Nowhere in the world is a murder accused invited for such an interrogation.
