Mahasamand: In Chhattisgarh's Mahasamand district, 100 people fell ill after a man ate a meal at a post-mortem of the deceased and all of them showed signs of food poisoning. Most of those who fell ill were children.

The incident took place at Ansula village under Pithora development block in Mahasmand district. Fifty children and 10 others were admitted to two different hospitals for treatment after the incident. This was stated by a government official of the district.

A man named Dilip Sahu performed Dasgatra (ritual like Dasma) 10 days after the death of his relative. The food was eaten by people who fell ill, said Mahamand district collector Domansingh.

Sahu is the headmaster of a government primary school in Ansula village, so in addition to his school children, children from nearby village schools also came to take food at the ritual and meal held by him. Two to three hours after the meal, a total of 100 people, including women and children, complained of abdominal pain and food poisoning, all of whom were admitted to hospitals for treatment, Singh said.
