Alexei, Putin's critic, was declared a terrorist by Russia

Russia has passed a law banning them from contesting elections if terrorism is declared

MOSCOW: Alexei Navalny, a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin, has said that the Russian government has declared him a terrorist and extremist for his remarks. Alexei is currently being held in a Russian prison. He has repeatedly criticized Putin.

Alexei is currently serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence for violating parole. "I welcome the sentence as I am no longer considered a threat to flee," he said. "It's just that I'm a terrorist now," Alex said in a statement posted with the help of his lawyer.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning him from contesting elections for members of terrorist organizations. By enacting the law, Putin has declared his opponents terrorists and banned them from contesting elections.
