A resolution will be passed in the Punjab Legislative Assembly to oppose the increase in the power of the BSF

(PTI) Chandigarh, Ta. 3

In an all-party meeting convened by Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channy today, all parties except the BJP have unanimously decided to convene a session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly to reject the Centre's notification to expand the BSF. For this a session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly will be convened and a resolution will be passed against the decision of the Central Government.

An all-party meeting was convened by Channy today on the issue of notification of the Central Government to expand the scope of work of the Border Security Force (BSF). However, the BJP boycotted the meeting. No BJP leader was present at the meeting.

Apart from the Congress, representatives of Shiromani Akali Dal, Aam Aadmi Party, Lok Insaf Party and other parties were present at the meeting.

The central government has recently amended the BSF Act. According to the amendment, the BSF in Punjab has been given the power to search, seize and arrest people in an area of 20 km from the international border instead of the current 15 km.

The Congress government in Punjab has consistently opposed the government's decision to amend the Act. After today's all-party meeting, Channy said law and order is a matter for the state. This decision of the Central Government is tantamount to usurping our rights. All the parties in Punjab will fight together to increase the pressure on the central government to reverse this decision. A resolution will be passed in the Punjab Legislative Assembly opposing this decision of the Central Government.
