Uri-like attack in Kashmir failed, one terrorist shot dead, one captured alive

Uri, Ta. 3

The security forces have had great success in the fight against terrorists in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces shot dead a militant and arrested a Pakistani militant in a clash with militants who had infiltrated India to carry out a major terrorist attack like the 2014 Uri attack. Lashkar-e-Toiba militant Al Babar Patra, a resident of Okhara in Pakistan-based Punjab, surrendered to security forces. The identity of the terrorist killed in the clash remains to be seen.

After the success of Operation Uri, the army held a press conference and gave details of the encounter. "One terrorist was killed during the operation while another was arrested," said Major General Virendra Vast, GOC, 17th Infantry Division.

Major General Virendra Vats said the operation lasted for nine days in areas near the Line of Control in the Uri sector. The operation started on September 15. Our patrol team launched an operation to speed up the infiltrating terrorists who saw infiltration activities at the Line of Control. When the encounter started, two intruders were entering from across the border while the remaining four intruders were on the other side.

Major General Watts said that after the firing, four terrorists were taking advantage of the bushes and returning to Pakistan when two Indians entered the border. Additional forces were arranged to encircle them. One terrorist was killed during the encounter on September 9, while another was captured. The surrendering terrorist identified himself as Ali Babar Patra, from Pakistan's Punjab. He admitted that he was associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba and was trained in Muzaffarabad. He confessed that he had only come here to supply weapons. He had infiltrated Uri from Salamabad canal. In 2014, terrorists infiltrated the same route and attacked an army camp in Uri.

The army said seven militants have been killed in the last seven days in Uri while one militant was captured. The Major General said that 3 AK series weapons, 3 pistols and revolvers and more than 50 grenades were seized from him. The terrorists also found Pakistani currency.

Earlier, security forces arrested two militants and busted a militant hideout in Kashmir. Srinagar police, with the help of Pulwama police and 30 RRs of the army, arrested two militant underground workers from south Kashmir's Pulwama district.
