UBL, Carlsberg India and others received a total of Rs. 5 crore fine

The Competition Commission has slapped a total fine of Rs 3 crore on United Breweries Limited, Carlsberg India, All India Brewers Association (AIBA) and others for grouping for sale and supply of beer in various states and union territories.

A final order has been issued against three beer companies. The three companies are United Breweries Limited (UBL), Submiller India Limited (new name AB Inbev) and Carlsberg India Private Limited (CIPL).

The three companies have been accused of grouping and supplying beer to various Indian states and union territories, the official statement said. The investigation revealed that groupings were also carried out through the platform of the All India Brewers Association (AIBA).

The statement further said that CCI has been directed to pay Rs 50 crore to UBL and Rs 150 crore to CIPL. The group formation period is calculated from 2009 to October 10, 2018.

On October 10, 2016, the Director General (DG) raided and seized some evidence.
