The Taliban's actions have crippled the economy in Afghanistan and people are withdrawing money from banks. As a result, not only do Afghan banks have no money, but the Taliban have deposited ૧ 12 million in cash and gold with its central bank, the Bank of Afghanistan (GHA). All this he obtained by looting the homes of former government officials, and local officials. This he deposited in the treasury of the Da Afghanistan Bank. China's Xinhua news agency said in a statement.

Officials from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan have proved their transparency by depositing the property in the treasury. Even so, the news agency said.

The statement further said that the acting governor of the central bank, Mohammad Idris, had assured the security of the deposits made by the citizens in the commercial banks of Afghanistan.

The statement further said that commercial banks around the world, and in the region as well, usually keep about 10 per cent of their capital in cash. The rest is lent to the general public. But the banks in Afghanistan hold about 50 per cent of the Afghan and foreign exchange reserves. So the banking sector has been in a good position.
