IT raids on former Maharashtra Home Minister, Deshmukh's house, college, hotel

MUMBAI: Income-tax officials today raided the residence, college and hotel of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, who was in trouble following allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh.

After the ED and CBI, now the Income Tax department's action has increased Deshmukh's troubles. The Income Tax department conducted a search operation in Deshmukh's house in Nagpur, a hotel near the airport, a factory and a college. Deshmukh's three partners are also said to have been investigated.

Deshmukh had earlier been summoned several times by the ED for questioning in the money laundering case. But Deshmukh did not appear in the ED's office. Police officer Sachin Waze was arrested in connection with the discovery of an explosive-laden vehicle near the residence of businessman Mukesh Ambani and the murder of the owner of the vehicle.

In addition, the then Commissioner of Police Parambir Singh was replaced. Home Minister Anil Deshmukh was also removed from office. The probe was launched after Parambir Singh alleged that Deshmukh had targeted Vaze to collect Rs 100 crore per month.
