An attacker stabbed six people in an IS terrorist attack on Friday in a New Zealand Auckland supermarket. However, police shot dead the attacker just 30 seconds after the attack. New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called the attack a terrorist attack. He said the attack was motivated by the terrorist organization IS.

New Zealand officials said Friday they shot and killed a violent fundamentalist who stabbed six people in a supermarket. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said the attacker was a Sri Lankan national who was under the influence of the Islamic State (IS) group. He was on the radar of the country's security agencies and had been under close surveillance for eight hours.

Ardern said the man was not allowed to be held in prison by law. The condition of three of the people who were shot by the attacker is critical. This was a violent and foolish attack. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a supermarket in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city.

Ardern said the man was shot dead within 30 seconds of the attack by a police team and a special tactical team as security forces were constantly monitoring him. Police Commissioner Andrew Coaster said he was concerned about the man's ideology and was keeping a close eye on him. Coaster said he chased her from her home to the supermarket on Friday. He broke into the store, where he had been before. He took a knife from the store and started attacking shortly after.

Coaster said two police officers from the special tactical group fled when the attack began. The assailant took a knife and ran towards the police. So he was shot and killed. Inside the supermarket, a video made by a man showed 10 bullets being fired.

Ardern said he could not disclose all the details due to legal hurdles. Some shopkeepers in the supermarket tried to help the injured. There is a severe lockdown in Auckland due to the spread of the Corona epidemic. Most businesses are closed. Generally people are only allowed to go out of the house to buy groceries and medicines.
