IS reactivates in Iraq after Taliban takeover

IS militants opened fire on police at a checkpoint, launching a large-scale search operation

Baghdad: The terrorist organization IS has reactivated in Iraq. A recent terrorist attack by IS has killed 13 policemen. The terrorists came to the checkpoint here and opened fire indiscriminately. Five policemen were also injured.

The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a checkpoint near the village of Sahitya in Iraq's Kirkuk province. Police said that a terrorist organization called IS was behind the attack. However, no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The province in which the attack took place is believed to be the northern part of Iraq that has been frequently targeted by IS.

Iraqi police and troops have been conducting counter-terrorism operations in the area from time to time. Police believe the terrorists carried out the attack in retaliation. Currently, the dominance of IS in Iraq has weakened, although IS is still active in the north. Large-scale terrorist camps are raging in the province where the attack took place, which is now under military scrutiny.
