India resents British rule not to allow Covishield vaccine

New Delhi, September 21, 2021, Tuesday

India has expressed displeasure over the new vaccine rule being imposed by Britain. The new rule is set to take effect on October 4.

India expressed its displeasure during a meeting with the British Foreign Secretary. At the same time, India on Tuesday stressed the need to resolve the issue of cowardly quarantine in Britain as soon as possible in the mutual interest of the two countries.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar wrote on Twitter that he was happy to meet Britain's new Foreign Secretary. The roadmap till 2030 as well as the developments in Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific have also been discussed.

It is to be mentioned that the rules have been relaxed after Britain reduced the risk of covid but India is not among the countries which have recognized the vaccine. This means that Indians traveling to the UK will have to undergo a PCR test before leaving, and local rules will apply to them in the UK as well.

However, Britain has said it is in talks with India to recognize the covishield vaccine. Currently, the UK has decided that those who receive two doses of the Covishield vaccine in India will not be counted among those who have taken the two doses of the vaccine if they arrive in the UK, and will have to remain in quarantine for 10 days. There is concern among Indians who want to go to Britain under the new rule.
