India closed: Farmers in Punjab, Haryana blocked roads at several places, sat on railway tracks and stopped rail traffic

In Punjab and Haryana, farmers on Monday blocked highways in several places to protest against the Centre's three agri-laws and also suspended railway services sitting on railway tracks. The closure was announced by various farmers' unions.

The ruling Congress party in Punjab has openly stated that it is firmly with the farmers on the three anti-farmer agricultural laws. Due to this peasant movement, strict closures were observed all over the Punjab. Businesses and commercial establishments were also closed in many places.

National as well as highways in Amritsar, Rupnagar, Jalandhar, Pathankot, Sangrur, Mohali, Ludhiana, Ferozepur and Bhantida were blocked by protesters. In Haryana, road traffic was closed in Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Panipat, Hissar, Karnal, Kaithal, Sheriffazzar and Panchkula districts. Seema Sharma, divisional railway manager in Ferozepur, told reporters that some passenger trains were canceled. So the timing of some was changed.

Phagwara station superintendent Devinder Singh told reporters that the 00004-up Howrah Mail from Kolkata to Amritsar was stopped at Phagwara station at 7.5 am. Similarly, the 09-up Begumpura Express bound for Jammu at 7.5 am also had to stop at Phagwara station. In fact, the train not only stopped at Phagwara station but also near Jalandhar, as the railway track was 'jammed'.

Amritsar-Katihar Express, Saharsa-Amritsar Express and Uchchhar Express trains were stopped at Ambala-Containment railway station. The Ambala-Sarhanpur passenger train also had to stop at Jagdhari station.

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channy urged the Center to withdraw the anti-farmer laws, saying, "We are with the farmers and appeal to the central government to withdraw the three anti-farmer laws." Our farmers have been agitating for a year to withdraw this law. It's time to dump her and move on. "

Punjab Pradesh Congress President Navjot Sidhu and Pradesh Congress have also said that they are with the farmers.
