Heavy rains in Uttar Pradesh: 45 killed, schools and colleges closed for three days


BJP cancels Kisan Morcha Sammelan starting from 17th

In many districts, up to five inches of rain fell in 12 hours.

Lucknow: Heavy rains lashed Uttar Pradesh, causing waterlogging all around. Several trees were uprooted and many dilapidated houses collapsed in rural areas. At least 45 people were killed in separate accidents caused by the rains. The government has decided to close schools and colleges for three days.

Uttar Pradesh has been receiving torrential rains for the last two days. In the last 12 hours, several districts received up to five inches of rain. It caused flooding all around.

Several villages became out of touch. A number of trees were uprooted. Dilapidated buildings were also demolished. Many people died when houses collapsed. In addition, many people were rescued from the rubble. Due to heavy rains, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has decided to keep schools and colleges closed till Monday.

The meteorological department said heavy rains are likely in the coming days in states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi as the weather has changed. The wind was blowing at a speed of 50 to 60 kmph in many districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Power outages caused power outages in many areas. Trains in UP had to be canceled due to heavy rains. People were forced to stop in the middle. Following heavy rains, BJP has canceled the Kisan Morcha Sammelan starting from 17th. Now a new date of September 26 has also been announced.
