CBI report on toxic chemicals used in fireworks serious ્રીમ Supreme

(PTI) New delhi date. 3

"The CBI report on the use of toxic chemicals in making fireworks is serious and we cannot leave people to die," the apex court said. The apex court has clearly stated that the preliminary investigation has found that the use of barium and labeling of fireworks has been violated.

A bench of Justice MR Shah and Justice AS Bopanna said the firecrackers seized by the CBI contained harmful chemicals like barium salt. The court said that firecracker manufacturers like Hindustan Fireworks and Standard Fireworks bought large quantities of barium and also used it in large quantities in fireworks.

The bench has given one more opportunity to the producers to present their case in the context of the report of the Joint Director, CBI, Chennai. The apex court has directed that a copy of the CBI's preliminary investigation report be made available to all lawyers by Thursday.

The court further said that the country celebrates every day but there is a need to focus on other aspects as well. We can’t leave people dying. The next hearing in the case is set for October 6.

It may be mentioned that the use of barium has been banned since 2013. Firecracker makers, however, bought the chemical in large quantities.

On March 3 last year, the apex court asked Standard Fireworks, Hindustan Fireworks, Vinayaga Fireworks Industries, Shree Mariamman Fireworks, Shree Suryakala Fireworks and Selva Vinayagar Fireworks to present reasons for non-compliance with the apex court order.
