By-election of Bhawanipur seat in West Bengal today: Mamata's fate will be decided

Kolkata: In view of the Assembly by-elections, heavy security has been beefed up in Bhawanipur, West Bengal, with 18 central security companies deployed, a senior police official said in a statement.

Section 14 of the CRPC has been implemented at a distance of 500 meters from the polling station in view of tomorrow's polling. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is the Trinamool Congress candidate for the Bhawanipur seat by-election in South Kolkata. The BJP has fielded Priyanka Tibrewal against him and the CPI (M) has fielded Shreejib Vishwas.

Polling is to be held tomorrow at a total of 6 booths of 6 polling stations. Three Central Forces personnel have been deployed per booth. Outside the polling station, Kolkata police officers have been assigned security responsibilities.

According to a senior Kolkata police official, three additional control rooms have been set up. 151 special vehicles will be deployed to protect EVMs. The counting of votes will take place on October 3.

The Irrigation Department has also been asked to remain alert in view of the rain and flood situation. If the polling station is flooded, it has been instructed to have a pump ready to draw water.
