Government recognizes child marriage by making registration of child marriages compulsory: Cons

New Delhi: The government has passed a controversial bill in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. In which registration of child marriage is also recognized. This has led to the possibility that the government has openly allowed child marriage in Rajasthan. When the bill was introduced in the Assembly, the BJP had demanded a split vote.

On the refusal of Speaker Rajendra Parik, BJP MLAs came to Vail and walked out chanting slogans. During the debate on the bill, BJP MLA Ashok Lahoti said that the passage of the bill was a black day for the assembly. Does the Legislature allow us to have child marriages by consensus?

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal, on the other hand, said that registration of marriages below the prescribed age of marriage was done in compliance with Supreme Court orders. He also said that the marriage certificate is a legal document and due to its lack many widows do not get the benefit of state services.
