A worrying 34 per cent decline in camel population in Rajasthan

The law to protect this animal, known as the desert vehicle, reduced the income of camel breeders

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government is actively considering starting a camel school like Goshala in the state. The purpose of starting a camel school is to protect this special animal in Rajasthan.

Lachand Katania, Minister of State for Agriculture, Government of Rajasthan, expressed concern that camels are officially an animal of the state of Rajasthan. However, the camel population in the state has declined by 34 per cent. Will be seen.

The state government is deeply concerned over the declining camel population in the desert region of Rajasthan. Earlier in 2015, the Bharatiya Janata Party government officially declared the camel as the animal of the state. It also passed the Rajasthan Camel Act-2015.

The law prohibits the slaughter of camels in Rajasthan and their transportation in and out of the state. Rajasthan had 3.25 lakh camels in 2012. However, in 2019 this number has come down to 2.13 lakh.

Camel breeders, on the other hand, are demanding some concessions in the law as they cannot buy or sell camels under the law. In addition, the slaughter of camels is considered illegal.
