6 magnitude earthquake shakes China's Sichuan province, killing 3 and injuring 60


730 houses collapsed, 7290 damaged

The epicenter was reported at 10:33 a.m. GMT 10 km below the ground in Luxian County.

BEIJING: A magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook the southwestern province of Sichuan this morning. The quake has so far killed three people and injured 60 others.

The second level of response was activated at the Sichuan Earthquake Relief Headquarters. Which was the second largest response in China’s Fare Tire Earthquake Emergency Response System. The epicenter was reported at 4.33am, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center. The epicenter was reported 10 kilometers below the ground in Luxiaman County.

According to China's official news agency, those injured in the quake were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The condition of three of them is being shown to be serious.

According to the local government, 6900 affected people have been relocated. While 10,000 people have been relocated to temporary relief camps. The quake destroyed 730 houses and damaged 7,290. 890 commanders and fighters were involved in the rescue operation.

In addition, another 4,600 rescue workers have been placed on standby. The power supply to the affected area was cut off. The rains also disrupted relief operations. An earthquake also shook Sichuan Province in 2008. In which thousands of people were killed.
