17.5 crore heroin seized in Assam


Guwahati: Four days after the Guwahati police station seized 1.824 kilograms of heroin from two locations, they recovered another 2.5 kilograms of heroin on Thursday, valued at Rs 17.5 crore. This is the largest amount of heroin ever seized.

A total of 2.5 kg of heroin seized on Thursday is valued at Rs 17.5 crore in the international market, Guwahati police said. Praising the police force, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "No matter what the drug mafia understands, our police will not allow them to succeed." The police have done a tremendous job.

According to intelligence sources, in the morning, police intercepted a truck in the Jorbat area in the East Guwahati Police District, which is the entry point for Guwahati in the upper part of Assam and Meghalaya, said Commissioner of Police Harmeet Singh.

A thorough inspection of the vehicle turned up a total of 205 soap cases of heroin found inside the oil tank. This is by far the largest seizure of heroin. Two drug peddlers in the vehicle have been arrested, the commissioner said. They were from Nagaland and Manipur. The city's special squad also arrested a 33-year-old drug supplier from Shillong. Three mobile phones and Rs 35,600 in cash were seized from him. On August 8, police seized a total of Rs 14 crore from two places and arrested eight.
