What happened in Kakori? Why Yogi Sarkar considers it not 'scandal' but 'train action'

During the war of independence many agitations were carried out by the freedom fighters to defeat the British. On the one hand, the anniversary of 'Leave India Movement' is being celebrated today, on the other hand, the much talked about 'Kakori scandal' took place on August 9. Today, many programs are being held in Uttar Pradesh on this occasion. There are some twists in the Uttar Pradesh invitation card though.

Although the incident has been known as 'Kakori scandal' in history, the Uttar Pradesh government has termed it as 'Kakori train action' in its official invitation. The UP government has deemed the word Kakori scandal insulting and has therefore changed its language.

Special events are being organized on the occasion on Monday at Kakori in Uttar Pradesh. In the meantime, other programs including Kisagoi, Tiranga Yatra, film exhibition will be held. It will be attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Anandiben Patel and several other guests.

What was the incident?

The Kakori scandal of August 9, 1925 has always been known for Ramprasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ullah Khan, Rajendra Prasad Lahidi and many other revolutionaries. At that time, the revolutionaries associated with the Hindustan Republic Association (HRA) carried out the incident.

The incident involved a train robbery that took place on August 9, 1925 from Kakori. The protesters planned to rob the train. When the train was about 8 miles from Lucknow, 3 revolutionaries sitting in it stopped the train and looted the government treasury.

For this, the freedom fighters used German Mauzer and looted Rs 4,000 from the British government treasury. Ramprasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ullah Khan and Roshan Singh were hanged in connection with the Kakori scandal. Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh wrote extensively about the incident.
