The Ministry of Civil Aviation has given approval to the National Institute of Science Education and Research Bhubaneswar to use drones. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation have given conditional approval to the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) Bhubaneswar under the Unmanned Aviation System Rules, 2021. Once such exemption is granted, aerial surveying and photography of centrally protected monuments will be carried out by drones in collaboration with the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). According to NISER, after government approval, it will monitor the Raja-Rani temple and Lingaraj temple at Bhubaneswar by drone.

This approval is valid for a period of one year from the date of approval or until further orders and will be subject to the terms and conditions of standard operating procedures promulgated by the DGCA. Earlier this month, Haryana was also allowed to use drones. Its purpose was to obtain information such as data acquisition, mapping for nectar cities like Hisar, Panchkula and Ambala urban area development and property tax survey.
