The Taliban also captured the Salma Dam, inaugurated by PM Modi

The Taliban have seized the capitals of 18 provinces in Afghanistan. It is now only 50 km from the capital Kabul. The Taliban's new claim, meanwhile, is shocking. In fact, the Taliban have now claimed control of the Salma Dam in Herat province. It may be mentioned here that this is the same dam which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during 2016.

Salma Dam is located in Herat province

The Salma Dam is located in the Herat province of Afghanistan. It is also known as the India-Afghanistan Friendship Dam. A Taliban spokesman also confirmed that Adam had been captured. It is noteworthy that this is not the first time the Taliban have targeted Salma Dam. He had earlier attacked the dam on August 4. The Afghan government at the time thwarted the attack.

PM Modi inaugurated the dam

It may be mentioned here that during the year 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with the President of Afghanistan Ashraf Ghani inaugurated the Salma Dam. The dam is also known as the Afghanistan-India Friendship Dam. The Salma Dam on the Hari Rud River in Herat Province generates a large amount of electricity. In addition, the dam is also used to irrigate 75,000 hectares of land.
