New Delhi: Launching digital currency e-rupee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said that the government had saved Rs 1.78 lakh crore by directly transferring cooking gas subsidy, ration money and other social welfare schemes to beneficiaries using technology and thus filling system loopholes.

Thus the government saved such a huge amount through DBT. The Prime Minister said this while launching e-Rupee through video conferencing today. E-Rupee is a voucher based payment solutions. Cashless and contactless payments can be made through e-Rupee. A woman in Mumbai paid for a vaccine through e-rupee at a private hospital.

Thus he became the first user of this solution. Governors of different states of the country, Union Ministers, Governors of the Reserve Bank and other dignitaries took part in this important digital program.

Modi said that if not only the government but also a general body or organization wants to help someone in their treatment or for someone's study or to work for someone else, they can give e-rupees instead of cash. This will ensure that the money given by him will be used for the same work for which he has given money. Thus, along with the e-rupee person, the purpose is also specific.

E-Rupee is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payments. It is an e-voucher based on QR code or SMS string. It can be delivered to the beneficiaries' mobiles.

The user will be able to redeem this one-time payment system without any card, through digital payment app or internet banking with the service provider. National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has developed it on its UPI platform.
