The Finance Ministry has summoned Infosys MD and CEO Salil Parekh to meet Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday after the Income Tax Department's website went down for two days in a row. The summons were issued two months after the website was launched but users are facing a number of issues. During the visit, Parekh will have to explain the reasons for the problem to the finance minister.

The Income Tax Department launched the new website on June 7. This website is designed by Infosys. People have been facing many difficulties in this website since the first day of its launch.

The website crash has forced the income tax department to allow some remittance forms to be filled manually. Some dates have also been extended for the Pension Fund and the Sovereign Wealth Fund.

The finance ministry on Monday issued summons to Infosys MD and CEO Salil Parekh, the income tax department said on Twitter. The summons have been issued to find out the reasons behind the persistence of many problems even though it has been 2.5 months since the website was launched. It may be mentioned that the website of the income tax department has been completely shut down since August 31.

With the launch of the website, many problems started and the finance minister called a meeting of top officials of Infosys on June 3 and asked them to rectify the problems as soon as possible.

In 2016, Infosys was awarded a contract to launch a new income tax website. It was decided to create this new website with the intention of completing the refund process in one day instead of 3 days. As of June 2021, the government has paid Rs 12.5 crore to Infosys for the creation of the website.

The website for GST has also been created by Infosys and even in the early days, traders faced many problems.
