Nitin Gadkari praised Nehru and taught the Congress to be strong

Strong opposition is essential to keep the ruling party in check: Gadkari

All parties in power and in opposition need to introspect

Nehru and Vajpayee were the ideal leaders of Indian democracy

New Delhi: Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari today lauded the country's first Prime Minister and veteran Congress leader Vaharlal Nehru and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also advised all the opposition parties, including the ruling party, his own party, the BJP and the Congress, to introspect, and urged the Congress to become stronger.

Gadkari's praise of Jawaharlal Nehru and his advice to the Congress to become stronger is indicative of the current internal politics of the BJP, and Gadkari indirectly expressed his anger and displeasure at Prime Minister Modi for advising the ruling party to introspect.

Addressing a function organized by a Hindi news channel, Gadkari said that all parties, the ruling party and the opposition, should introspect and treat each other with utmost respect. Both Vajpayee and Nehru were ideal leaders of Indian democracy and both veterans said they would literally abide by their own democratic limits.

The legacy that Atalji has given us is the source of our inspiration while Nehruji also made a huge contribution to Indian democracy. Talking about the role and contribution of strong opposition in democracy, the Union Minister said that a strong opposition is very much needed to make our democracy successful and strong.
