Heavy rains in central China have flooded 12 feet, killing 21 people


Order the administration to remain alert following the possibility of floods

BEIJING: Heavy rains in a city in central China's Hubei province have killed 21 people and left four others missing, local sources said in a statement. The city of Lulin in Suizian County received 503 mm of rain from Wednesday to Thursday, according to officials. Which caused 12 feet of water to flood.

Heavy rains have affected 8,000 people in the city. Relief work is underway. China's National Meteorological Agency has issued a yellow alert warning of heavy rains in some central and eastern parts of the country.

The meteorological department has instructed to take precautionary measures in these areas. Heavy rains are still forecast in Hubei, Anhui, Hunan, Jiangxi and Zhejiang. 200 mm of rainfall is also expected in some areas.

These five provinces are forecast to receive 80 mm of rain in an hour. The National Meteorological Department has asked the local administration to remain alert following the possibility of floods. China has a four-color weather warning system.

Red for extremely severe warning, Orange for less severe warning and Yellow for less severe intensity and finally Blue warning is given. Heavy rains in Henan province and its capital Zhengzhou last month killed at least 300 people and injured 50 others.
